The food was not what was expected. The coco bread was not fresh it crumbled in my hand. I order fish cakes received 1 greasy half burnt fishcake expensive. For the price I was expecting two fritters. The curry chicken was peppery and salty everything would have been better if I had visited the store.. The choice for me would have been to find another meal or leave. So Disappointed.

I got the stew chicken with rice and peas and two mild patties. It was really good and I’m sure it would have been better with the plantains but they didn’t have any at the moment. Either way this has been one of my go to spots locally for years and the taste has been consistent through out the years. I know some people feel like they fell off but they haven’t let me down and I’m happy to be loyal to them. The service is good some days and some days it’s not. This recent stop the service was good so no complaints from me. I look forward to stopping by again. My usual go to is oxtails but wanted to try something different.

I finally made my way to this Jamaican food place on Eddy Street!
I ordered to go. I'm not very familiar with this part of town, and I can be a bit of a Nervous Nellie in unfamiliar environments, so I played it safe this time. The location is a mixed bag--RI Hospital, Brown University practices, and then just a few steps down, gentlemen's clubs so, your call.

Now, on to the food! They have the popular, made-in-house Jamaican patties that I enjoy so much. Finally, no more frozen versions. Of course, they were ah-ma-zing, right? I ordered beef and chicken patties and stopped myself from getting the veggie kind as well. As always, I'm in danger of overordering. I did give in to a side order of yellow rice--nothing special, but it wasn't dry, so that counts as a win. I also ordered this fried chicken fillet-looking dish, and it turned out to be a fish cake (or fritter) called 'Flitas'! Made with ground saltfish, it's a serious tastebud stimulator. Yum. I wish I had ordered more than one because halfway through eating it, I didn't want to share with my husband (again--see other reviews, lol). The Jamaican patties are large. The beef filling is moist and had a mild spice to it. The chicken filling is also moist and has a noticeable curry flavor. The crust are truly flaky. I also had the fried bread dough or dumplings. I liked the patties and saltfish fritters (my new favorite!) but found the dumplings only okay. These dishes are really greasy but oh-so-scrumptious.

If you're in the mood for an exotic experience, check out the menu board, which boasts Callaloo (Amaranth), goat, oxtail, more kinds of fish, shrimp, and more. There are Breakfast items, Soup, et. al. There are at least six cooked dishes on display that you can choose from. Flames also has a great dessert menu. I was tempted to order a slice of rum cake--next time! Behind the counter, they also have Golden Krust sliced bread--Cinnamon and Jamaican varieties (I'm very intrigued by the latter and would definitely come back to try it).

I'm always delighted to discover new-to-me, lesser-known cuisines in Rhode Island. I hear they've been on Eddy Street for at least six years. I hope it continues on as there's so much more I haven't tried yet. No Jamaican Jerk Chicken for my first visit? I know, right? A travesty! I just got caught up in the excitement.

I hope you give it a shot if you're in the area!

Great! We ordered a medium Ox Tail with rice and Chicken Patties. Loved it all.
The staff was nice, I over heard them helping a few guys who didn’t know what they wanted. Casual seating for dine-in. Mostly take-away. Everyone who came in ordered to-go.
I loved the juices here. The strawberry ginger juice was fantastic. The cabbage was nice; mild but it went well with the flavors of everything else.
I’ve been recommended this place by a lot of people and finally decided to come try it 🙂 Now I’ll be recommending it too!

I can’t speak to the service or the atmosphere because I did my order on Uber eats but I will say that the food is a far cry from wet flames used to be back in the Early 2000s am from Cambridge mass and we used to go to Boston all the time for flames because the food was very authentic and it was quick fast and my opinion reasonably price and it became my favorite in my household throughout the years. The quality has just gone down that’s the truth and I don’t know if there’s been a switch of ownership or what but the past few times that I’ve gone is not been good. I used to go to the one and Grove Hall when I was a kid but then I started going to the one right next to Ashmont station because that’s where I worked and the few times I went I did not like anything besides the beef patties , the jerk wings were very very salty. I felt like the prices skyrocketed now some of that is not their fault. That’s inflation and they have to keep up with the cost of things as we know you’re going to the market. Oxtails are very expensive now, so I don’t blame the price going up because they are small business and they have to compete with the prices in the grocery market to get to cook the food but as far as the quality, the quality has gone down down down down in my opinion, I recently moved to Pawtucket and was craving some Crico and I looked on Uber eats and saw that flames was now in Providence. I know the name flames and so I felt comfortable with ordering from them unfortunately, the food that I Received was not great. I purchased the curry goat with the yellow rice and cabbage. the curry goat, it was so so salty. I cannot believe how much salt they put in this curry. If anybody knows how to cook curry you don’t need that much salt because the curry already have a strong flavor my families from Trinidad and Trinity Curry and Jamaican Curry are a little different. However, I used to love going to flames to get the curry goat because it taste so good and so I don’t know what the hell they’re doing now and this is not to be mean or criticize but this is to be truthful and honest, the food quality has fallen off and I hope they take key to it they may not because you know they still have several different locations and they are probably still doing good and that’s a great thing, but the people have been here for years. They truly know that the quality is not the same and I thought maybe because they had just open the providence one that maybe it would be a little better, but it was not. I was very disappointed. And just to prove my point this food was ordered Thursday evening. I’m gonna put a picture up it’s still here I have to throw it out because I seen if my boyfriend would want to eat it because I thought maybe I was tripping. It was too salty We still have the full plate of food here today because it was so bad and I hate to be wasteful and waste food is something I do not do but I will be throwing this out today.

Flames food will make you feel as if you are in Jamaica! The two guys were pleasant and described the food they would package me. I had beef, rice and veggies. The flavors are incredible! A medium dinner was $20 and big portion.

The moment I walked in, I knew I wanted to get something. It smelled so good. The display was just as good. I would have loved to order a sampler plate if they had one. The people who served me were great and friendly. I ordered 2 plates. I ordered a plate with Oxtails, rice and peas and cabbage and then a plate of bbq chicken and white rice for my gf. The bbq chicken was my favorite, id definitely order it again. The oxtails were ok, they were soft but the only thing i wasnt a fan of was the sauce. I like my sauce thicker... it was better cold, im assuming bc the sauce thickened a little at that point. The rice was ok, i really liked the cabbage though. I would definitely go back. My gf brought me here bc she had tried some oxtails that her mom had ordered and she told me about it, but i didnt take into consideration that it was literally her second time having oxtails, so she doesnt really have much to judge off of. Next time ima get some bbq chicken and some jerk chicken.
